National Dress

16. okt. 2011

I receive the magazine Meie Kodu weekly and I thoroughly enjoy trying to read it. Why do I say "trying" to read?

You see I never learnt to read or to write Estonian. I grew up with Parents who were Estonian and spoke only Estonian to me, so when I started school here, I couldn't speak a word of English. Now I am progressing well with my Eestikeele kirjutamine ja lugemine.

After I lost my mother, I became interested, even obsessed in her ancestry, especially the curious case of her national dress.
Even though she was born in Rġuge, her national dress was that of Mustjala County, which belongs to Saaremaa Island.

Is there any way that I can find out what is the connection, or which grandparent may have come from there?

Are there any older readers who may be able to help me, or know of contacts I can go through?

I am planning to go back to Estonia next year. Having been there already on a fact finding mission, I found that I didn't have enough time there to search for answers to all my questions.

Can you please help me?

Thank you
