It's a little left of centre compared to what we usually show, but what better way to celebrate the onset of winter in Australia than by watching glassy waves, swaying palm trees, shorts and bikinis, a careless lifestyle somewhere exotic and warm. Well at least these are the visions that spring to mind when you dream of surfing.
But what if that dream took place in Finland?
Now imagine it's snowing and you're covered with frost. The temperature is already below zero without the 30 m/s wind whipping at you from across the shore. Even the seawater is close to freezing. It's dark, it's cold, it's miserable. And just then, a man in a 6mm wetsuit comes charging through the storm and disappears into the roaring waves. What the...?
FinnSurf is the world's first Finnish surf film that has racked up awards from around the globe including the Best Feature Film at the Yullingup Surf Film Festival in Western Australia, 2012.
Told through the lives of five Finnish surfers, it's more than a surfing documentary, it's a story of true love and that intense, overwhelming passion we all feel for what lights our fire in the coldest of places.
FinnSurf is about leaving boredom, fear, and regrets behind in order to find tranquillity, harmony, and fulfilment. It's about a world where life is your dream and your dream is lived every day—no matter where it takes place.
But so our Estonian fans wont feel left out, we will be showing 'Between Two Fires'; the story of the Korjus family and in particular the relationship of the father with his two sons, both open-wheel race car drivers.
The eldest Kevin, has tasted success rising as high as a test driver for the Renault formula 1 team. The other son and younger of the two is setting out on his journey to the top and has to live in his brothers shadow and the glare of his fathers expectations. Can the father let go of the wheel and let fate take control of his destiny? Can he also live having become just a spectator to Kevin?
Doors open at 6pm, 'Between Two Fires' starts at 7pm followed by 'Finnsurf' at 7:45pm.
