We here in Adelaide have realized that the rumors have spread! Adelaide has had another one of those “Esto Pub Nights”… EPN 23 was a celebration of not only the 5th successive year of our EPN venture, but a celebration of the Estonian re-Independence and most importantly a welcome home of our very own Adelaide Australian-Estonian Olympian.
The excitement of the event certainly spread to our Baltic neighbors. For the first time in the short history of the EPN, we had a guest Baltic dance group. The Latvian dancers came and helped support the event. Rudis, it was fantastic to see your team here performing for us. The standards of the dances really were an inspiration.
The very enthusiastic crowd enjoyed another memorable meal after which the entertainment continued with our very own Hapu Koor. The now very famous Adelaide Estonian mixed choir under the direction of Kadri Auväärt, performed a spectacular set! Yes it was late, but what a fabulous performance! A Sydney singer joined the group and the selection of songs brought a tear to not only my eyes, but many others. The atmosphere was so engaged, that the applause was difficult to stop, which was a testament to the group.
Well this time of the year we were expecting a small crowd to fill the club-rooms but once again we had to expand into the main hall. Mid way through the evening it really was a great honor to have the pleasure of the company of Johan Linde. Is there a South Australian ‘Väliseestlane’ that has not watched his progress through the London Olympics and felt proud to have met him at one of our previous evenings? If not this was a chance to get a photo the gentle giant.
Johan was a real delight, not only did he spend time with the children posing with the numerous parent paparazzi, he was a fabulous ambassador for the entire community. The time spent was great and it was magnificent to see such a celebrity spend time with us. We all appreciated your time back here at ‘Kalev on Jeffcott’ and thank you for the help and support, even cleaning the glasses with Tom behind the bar.
Our next evening is in Saturday the 27th of October, we are again celebrating the OktooberEST Evening. Our team has secured an impressive Brass Band to entertain you. The response on the social media site advertising the event has already been overwhelming. This time we have not outsourced the dinner catering but have gone back to the original EPN principles of an inexpensive but great quality meal. Anneliis, Oxana and Relika have been getting advice from the German Arms in Hahndorf. You will enjoy a true Bratwurst from Adelaide’s best, and the accompaniments and salads, we are certain will be spoken about for many years. And Tom has his Lederhosen at the dry cleaner....
This Esto Pub Night is certain to be a great celebration of the Oktoober Fest event with great European food and fantastic entertainment. We are hosting it for only the second time on a Saturday night and already we have heard of many people making a return to our small venue in North Adelaide.
Remember our basic ethos, there is no need to book any tickets or tables. Just drop in for 30 minutes or stay for the evening. Toomas Sarapuu will be ready to serve a great refreshing Estonian Cider or Saku beer, yes the shipment has arrived from Estonia. Don’t worry if you’re a Melbourne Estonian, a few bottles have been sent to Matti Kivivalli! Enjoy a great meal and meet friendly Estonians. Drop in after being out elsewhere the entertainment will be spectacular. This is a night that you will meet your old Estonian friends, but remember keep it quiet! You will not see details of this in major national or international newspapers. Further details can be seen on our face-book page at: http://www.facebook.com/events/446616122057766/
